An Image in Scalr is a reference to a unique image that exists within your cloud (i.e. Scalr stores the ID of your cloud image, not the actual binary blob).

To be able to use a cloud Image (e.g. an AMI) that exists within your cloud, it must be registered as a Scalr Image.

Once registered, Images can be used in Roles.

For example, you could have an ubuntu-1404-hvm Image in Scalr that points to ami-9aaa1cf2.
